It has long been a Broadway tradition that hopefuls looking for stardom have travelled from far and wide via bus, plane, and train to try their luck at open auditions for roles big and small in the latest Broadway production.

Unlike the singing competition reality show popular on television these days, the online open audition was not a part of the Broadway tradition for casting a role; but all of that may be changing with the most recent call for the new Christine Daae for the award winning musical “Phantom of the Opera”.

Every performer knows that even an open casting call is filled with conditions on how the potential new cast member look and act.

That was another big change when the casting call for the new Christine went out…it is open to all females actors including women of colour, of Asian descent, Indigenous, and white in an effort to offer a more diverse Broadway.

Broadway hopes to reopen later this year, but the year of Covid has changed the way producers and directors will fill their roles in the upcoming productions.  While nothing compares with the feel of a live audition, the pandemic has changed the way Broadway will do business.

Broadway productions are required to hold principal auditions for union members once a year and chorus calls twice a year; additionally, non-union or open casting calls are given as needed or on a regular basis.

Anyone interested in auditioning for the role of Christine in Phantom of the Opera’ should send a video with a non-expiring downloadable link of them singing “Think of Me” from “Phantom” with an email including all the vital statistics and resume to with the title of SUBMISSION – auditioners last name in the subject line.  The deadline for submission of April , 2021.
