Daytona International Speedway resounds with the sound of hundreds of horsepower as the 2021 NASCAR season gets under way with the annual Busch Clash.

A non-points race, the drivers have earned their way into the prestigious race via accomplishments from the past season including race wins, pole positions, and spots in the playoffs.

After a random drawing Ryan Blaney sits on the pole and will bring the field to green.

After drawing the seventh place starting position, Chase Elliott will have to start the race from the back of the field after the inspection process discovered some unapproved adjustments on his car.

A total of 21 drivers will run 35 laps around the road course in the inaugural run of the 3.61 mile course for the Busch Clash. A competition caution has been planned for lap 15.

With no practice, the 21 drivers take to the track and get ready to run the first race of the season with the 14 turn road course.

Ryan Blaney brings the field down for the green flag start of the race and edges out for the lead as the drivers get three wide going into turn one.

Denny Hamlin challenges Ryan Blaney and takes the lead going into the turn.

Lap tow, the top five are Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron. Chase Elliott has moved up to 17th after starting the race last. Elliott won four road course races last season.

Still just on lap two, Kyle Busch has moved up inside the top 10 after starting the race in 16th place.

Lap three, Denny Hamlin holds on to the lead with Kyle Busch in ninth and Chase Elliott in 15th.

Lap three, Kevin Harvick gets into the grass after running through some dirt on the track, but gets the car back on the track and going again.

Lap four, the top five are Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman, William Byron, and Tyler Reddick.

Lap six, Denny Hamlin has a one and a half second lead on Ryan Blaney with Alex Bowman over two seconds back. Kyle Busch has moved up to seventh place with Chase Elliott back in 16th over 14 seconds back.

Lap seven, Matt DiBenedetto missed the chicane and must come to a complete stop before continuing on.

A few drivers are making pit stops for new tires. Teams cannot take on fuel until the competition caution on lap 15.

Many of the drivers are reporting that the track feels like a dirt track.

Lap eight, the top five are Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman, Tyler Reddick, and William Byron. Chase Elliott is now in 14th place.

The caution flag comes out on lap eight for track sweeping to get the dirt off of the track.

Pit road is open and most of the field come down for service…minus a fuel load. Denny Hamlin wins the race off of pit road. The teams do have rain tires should they be needed.

After staying out on the track, Ryan Blaney brings the field down for the green flag restart of the race on lap 10 and holds on to the lead. Alex Bowman, Tyler Reddick, Chris Buescher, and William Byron also stayed out on the track.

After Ryan Blaney missed a turn, Tyler Reddick takes the lead with Brad Keselowski in second; Denny Hamlin, Alex Bowman and Chris Buescher round out the top five.

Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch are in the top 10.

Lap eleven, Brad Keselowski challenges Tyler Reddick for the lead. Keselowski takes the lead on lap 12.

After having more on track difficulties, Kevin Harvick has to make a trip down pit road.

After some on track contact, Martin Truex Jr has some damage to his car.

Lap 12, the top five are Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr, Tyler Reddick, and Alex Bowman. Chase Elliott is up to seventh place.

Lap 13, Denny Hamlin challenges Brad Keselowski for the lead and retakes the top spot. Martin Truex Jr takes second with Brad Keselowski in third; Tyler Reddick and Erik Jones round out the top five with Chase Elliott in sixth place.

Lap 14, Chase Elliott challenges Erik Jones for fifth place.

Lap 14, Denny Hamlin leads the race but has Martin Truex Jr on his bumper. Truex takes the lead.

Chase Elliott takes fourth place.

Some drivers come down pit road for service before the competition caution.

Alex Bowman was caught speeding on pit road.

Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon, and Kurt Busch make pit stops prior to the caution flag on lap 16. Ryan Blaney also makes a pit stop; as does Kevin Harvick. Drivers still cannot fuel the cars.

At the end of lap 16, NASCAR throws the yellow flag for the competition caution. Martin Truex Jr is the race leader.

As the caution flag came out, Martin Truex Jr missed the chicane and did not make the mandatory stop. He will have to restart the race at the back of the field.

The entire field comes down pit road for fuel and service. Kurt Busch wins the race off of pit road after taking only two tires. Tyler Reddick began coming out of his pit stall very slowly before backing up into the stall for four fresh tires. Reddick reports that he accidently hit the ignition switch by mistake.

Kurt Busch brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 19 but misses the first turn and made a run through the grass; giving the lead over to Denny Hamlin with Ryan Blaney in second.

Lap 19, toe top five are Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, and Kyle Busch. Chase Elliott is back in 13th place.

Lap 20, Denny Hamlin has pulled out to a lead of over a second on Ryan Blaney; Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, and Kyle Busch round out the top five.

The third caution flag of the race comes out on lap 22 after Cole Custer gets stalled on the track and has flames coming out from under his car.

William Byron lost a tire after making a pit stop and had to make another trip down pit road.

Joey Logano has to restart the race from the back of the field after being charged with not coming down pit road in single file.

Denny Hamlin brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 25 with Kyle Busch alongside on the front row. Hamlin edges out for the lead with Austin Dillon taking second and Kyle Busch in third.

Ten to go, Denny Hamlin leads the race with Martin Truex Jr in second…but is reporting some issues with the car…Ryan Blaney;Kyle Busch, and Austin Dillon round out the top five. Chase Elliott is in sixth place.

With eight laps remaining in the race, Martin Truex Jr challenges Denny Hamlin for the lead; Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch, and Chase Elliott round out the top five.. Martin Truex Jr takes the lead and begins to pull away with Ryan Blaney in second.

Race leader Martin Truex Jr brings out the fourth caution flag of the race with eight laps remaining in the race after he hits some dirt and gets off the course and bumps the wall.

Several of the drivers come down pit road for fresh tires; six drivers stayed out on the track.

With just five laps remaining in the race, Chase Elliott brings the field down for the green flag restart and brings the field into turn one as the leader.

Lap 30, Chase Elliott leads the race; Joey Logano, Chris Buescher, Ryan Blaney, and Tyler Reddick round out the top five.

Martin Truex Jr is out of the race. Cole Custer is three laps down.

Four to go, Chase Elliott has a one second lead on Joey Logano with Ryan Blaney in third.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr gets turned around after some on track contact but the track stays green with just three laps to go.
