Hall of Fame entertainer Dolly Parton is a musical icon with a room full of trophies and awards with gold and platinum albums; however, when presented with the opportunity to add to that collection…she refused.

Not just once…but twice…the Country music icon refused acceptance of the nation’s highest civilian honour – the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The first time former President Donald Trump attempted to present the award to Parton, she refused because her husband Carl Dean was ill.

The second time the Medal was offered, Parton again refused; citing a refusal to travel during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Parton adds that if she were asked again by President Joe Biden, she would be hesitant saying,
“so now, I feel like if I take it, I’ll be doing politics, so I’m not sure.  I don’t work for those awards. It’d be nice, but I’m not sure that I even deserve it. But it’s a nice compliment for people to think that I might deserve it.”

Parton has contributed money to vaccine efforts, and millions to charitable endeavours.  She has also noted that while eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine, she has so far not gotten the vaccine because she didn’t want to appear to be “jumping the line”.

Former President Barack Obama noted that he did not award the Medal to Parton due to a, “screw up” from his administration.
