Despite numerous challenges involving the Covid-19 pandemic, the NFL has made it to the halfway point of the 2020 football season and has begun to look toward the post-season.

In February, Super Bowl LV will be held in the Sunshine state of Florida in Tampa at the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Raymond James Stadium.

On November 12, the NFL announced that the Super Bowl halftime entertainment will be Canadian Hip-Hop and R&B artist The Weeknd.

The Weeknd spoke on his being named as the halftime entertainment for the Super Bowl saying, “we all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position.  I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.”

Fellow artist Jay-Z spoke on The Weeknd being selected to perform at the Super Bowl saying, “The Weeknd has ushered in a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry.  This is an extraordinary moment in time and the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer.”

With all of his singles reaching at least platinum status, The Weeknd is a three time Grammy and 10 time Juno Award winner.

His most recent album “After Hours” not only debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 Album chart; his hit single “Blinding Lights” set a record on the Billboard U.S. radio chart at 46 weeks.

In the United States, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certifies singles and albums gold, platinum, and Diamond based on sales.  Based on those sales, The Weeknd’s single “Earned It” has bee cerified seven times platinum for selling (or equivalent streams) seven million copies.  His singles “Starboy” and “Can’t Feel My Face” have each been certified eight times platinum, and “The Hills” has sold eleven million copies to earn a Diamond Award status for selling at least 10 million copies.

The album “Beauty Behind the Madness” has been certified four times platinum.

Setting records that have been set by long established artists, The Weeknd has been entertaining audiences for the past 10 years.
