Jimmy Kimmel hosts the 2020 edition of the Prime Time Emmy Awards.  In this age of the global pandemic and social distancing, Kimmel host the gala event in an empty theatre full of cardboard cutouts and flashbacks to a theatre filled with people.

Kimmel said that the awards won’t stop the pandemic or the fires but they are fun…and right now we need fun.

With his Emmy win this week, Norman Lear became the oldest ever award winner at the age of 98.

The Emmys are broadcasting from over 100 remote locations from around the world.

Instead of an orchestra this year, the Emmys has a DJ.

Jennifer Aniston presented the first award of the night – Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series to Catherine O’Hara for her role as Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek”.

The award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series went to Eugene Levy for his role as Johnny Rose in “Schitt’s Creek”.

Tracee Ellis Ross presented the award for Outstanding Writer for a Comedy Series to Daniel Levy for “Schitt’s Creek”.

The award for Outstanding Direction in a Comedy Series went to Daniel Levy and Andrew Cividino for “Schitt’s Creek”.

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series went to Daniel Levy for his role as David Rose in “Schitt’s Creek”.

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series went to Annie Murphy for her role as Alexis Rose in “Schitt’s Creek”.

The award for Outstanding Comedy Series went to “Schitt’s Creek”.

The award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series went to “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”.

The award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie went to Regina King for her role in the “Watchman”.

The award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie went to Mark Ruffalo for his role in “I Know This Much is True”.

The award for Outstanding Writing in a Limited Series or Movie went to Damon Lindelof and Cord Jefferson for “Watchman”.

The award for Outstanding Direction in a Limited Series or Move went to Maria Schrader for “Unorthodox”.

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie went to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for “Watchman”.

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie went to Uzo Aduba for her role in “Mrs. America”.

Anthony Anderson presented the award for Outstanding Limited Series went to “Watchman”.

In the In Memorium segment, H.E.R. performed “Nothing Compares to You” as the names and photos of those who have died over the past year aired.

The award for Outstanding Competition Program went to “RuPaul’s Drag Race”. 

Tyler Perry was named as the 2020 Governor’s Award.  The award is not presented every year but only when the recipient rises above the medium.  Oprah Winfrey and Chris Rock paid tribute to Perry.

The award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series went to Jeremy Strong for his role in “Succession”.

The award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama Series went to Zendaya for her role in “Euphoria”.

Laverne Cox presented the award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series went to Jesse Armstrong for “Succession”.

The award for Outstanding Direction in a Drama Series went to Andrij Parekh.  Parekh noted that he won the award on his birthday.  He dedicated the award to those who have names that are difficult to pronounce or are considered outsiders.

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series went to Billy Crudup for his role in “The Morning Show”.

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series went to Julia Garner for her role in “Ozark”.

The final award of the night was for Outstanding Drama Series.  “This is Us” actor Sterling K. Brown presented the award for “Succession”.
