The Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, New York has many things to offer its visitors. And while many of the exhibits are interactive, one of the most awe inspiring is the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden.

Opening July 11 and running through November 1 The Strong presents Fairy Magic! The exhibit features light spritley music as visitors wander through the garden filled with hundreds of butterflies, orchids, begonias, whimsical flowers, and even a set of doors from a fairy house that were donated by Blue Toucan Studios artists Chris Pallace and Kevin Serwacki.

Visitors are welcome to photograph the garden and its myriad of residents.


The only year round indoor butterfly garden in upstate New York, the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden is also homered to a chameleon, turtles, a tortoise, and a green aracari toucan.

Entry into the Butterfly Garden requires an additional charge above the general admission ticket price.

In order to ensure the safety of visitors and employees, entry into The Strong is via a timed ticket which may be purchased online or at the admissions desk.

Tickets to The Strong are $16 for everyone over the age of two and free for members and those under the age of two.

Entry to the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden is $4 for members, $5 for non members, and free for those under the age of two.

Reserved tickets are available from 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm daily with additional times from 5pm to 8pm on Friday and Saturday.

All visitors to The Strong who are medically able to do so must wear a mask and social distancing protocols are in place. The food court will be closed and the water fountains are not in sue. Visitors are encouraged to bring a water bottle and fill them with the new touchless water stations.

Train and carousel rides are available only through a touchless pay system.
