In a world record breaking event, Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills sold a guitar once belonging to Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain.

The 1959 Martin D-18E that Cobain used on an episode of MTV Unplugged sold for a whopping SIX MILLION DOLLARS!

Australian Peter Preedman who owns Røde Microphones ponied up the massive fee for the guitar.

Bidding on the guitar that Cobain used in the 1983 episode of “Unplugged” on “About a Girl” and “All Apologies” began at $1 million.

Cobain would die only five months later by his own hand at the age of 27.

A guitar that belonged to Prince during the highlight of his career only fetched $563,000.

Other auction items included a macramé belt worn by Elvis Presley that sold for $298,000 and the gown worn by Madonna in her “Vogue” video that sold for $179,200.
