Martinsville Speedway is more than just a paper clip shaped track; it’s a tricky half mile track with an even trickier pit road.
After post race inspection at Martinsville on Wednesday June 10, NASCAR officials handed down three penalties to three different teams.
The Hendrick Motorsports number nine car driven by Chase Elliott and the Joe Gibbs Racing number 18 driven by Kyle Busch were found to have a lug nut improperly secured.
As a result of the infractions, Elliott’s crew chief Alan Gustafson and Busch’s crew chief Adam Stevens were each fined $10,000.
The number 51 Petty Ware Racing car driven by Joey Gase failed pre race inspection five times prior to the Blue Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500.
As a result, Gase had to start the race from the back of the field and serve a pass through penalty at the start of the race.
NASCAR has issued some additional penalties on the 51 team. Crew chief Lee Leslie has been fined $25,000 and Petty Ware Racing has been docked 10 car owner points.
