On June 10, NACAR made an announcement banning the use of the Confederate flag at all of its events and venues beginning immediately.  The move came in the wake of recent events surrounding the death of George Floyd at the hand of the Minneapolis Police Department and an urging from NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace.

And while the news is welcomed by many, not everyone is happy.

NASCAR Gander Outdoors and RV Truck Series part time driver and truck owner Ray Ciccarelli has announced that he is quitting the circuit at the end of the 2020 racing season because he does not agree with NASCAR’s decision.

Ciccarelli has a record of no wins in 32 races.  Ciccarelli is currently not listed on the roster of Truck Series drivers.  With only one top 10 finish in his career, Ciccarelli has an average finish of 24.8.  He was originally scheduled to make his 2020 racing debut at Homestead-Miami this weekend, but has since withdrawn from the race.

In a statement that was originally posted on Facebook and has since been deleted, Ciccarelli said, “well its been a fun ride and dream come true but if this is the direction NASCAR is headed we will not participate after 2020 season is over , I don’t believe in kneeling during Anthem nor taken ppl right to fly what ever flag they love. I could care less about the Confederate Flag but there are ppl that do and it doesn’t make them a racist all you are doing is f—ing one group to cater to another and i ain’t spend the money we are to participate in any political BS!! So everything is for SALE!!”

NASCAR has issued a statement on their decision saying, “the presence of the confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry.”

Ciccarelli isn’t the only person not happy with NASCAR’s new ruling; helmet artist Jason Beam marked the decision by saying, “ignorance wins again.”  Beam noted that the north had slavery too; adding, “you want to remove the American Flag as well, idiots.”
