Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway is always a tricky feat, especially pit road. Drivers make runs of about 15 seconds around the track, which is about the same amount of time required to make a pit stop. Under caution, teams have only a few more seconds more before a lap is completed.
With very limited numbers of team members allowed over the wall to complete the pit stop, it is almost miraculous that stops are completed on time and mistake free.
However, mistakes do occur…
In post race inspection after the Supermarket Heroes 500 on May 31, NASCAR officials found a improperly secured lug nut on the number 20 Joe Gibbs Racing car driven by Erik Jones.
As a result of the infraction, NASCAR has fined the number 20 car crew chief Chris Gayle $10,000.
