Seven time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson has not won in nearly 100 races; and after finishing second to Brad Keselowski in the Coca-Cola 600, Johnson’s woes continued.

Johnson’s number 48 Hendrick Motorsports car failed post race inspection in the wee hours of Memorial Day after a long night of racing.

NASCAR officials said that Johnson’s car failed the rear alignment in the Optical Scanning portion of the inspection process.

As a result of the failure Johnson was disqualified from the race and moved to the last position in the 40 car field.  Johnson’s disqualification also resulted in the remaining 38 drivers moving up one spot in the race results.

Johnson also must forfeit the eleven stage points he had earned during the three stages of the race.

Crew chief Cliff Daniels noted that the post race inspection failure may have been due to something breaking in the car; adding that the team will investigate the issue.

The 48 team can appeal the decision if they feel it was unjustly issued.
