Musician Jorge Santana died May 14, 2020 in San Raphael, California as a result of natural causes at the age of 68.
Jorge is the youngest of the three Santana brothers including award winning performer Carlos.
After not learning to play the guitar until he was 14, Jorge formed the band Malibus with some high school friends in San Francisco. The band’s name was later changed to Malo.
They charted their first hit song with “Suavecito” – also called the Chicano national anthem. In 1972, the band performed the song on the hit music show “American Bandstand”.
Jorge was also a part of The Fania All-Stars and performed as a solo artist; as well as, performing with big brother Carlos.
Jorge spent some time working for Carlos as director of artist relations at Santana’s management company.
He was born in Jalisco, Mexico in 1951 but the family moved to the San Francisco area in the early sixties.
Other than being survived by brother Carlos, no list of survivors was given.
