Sothby’s is one of the biggest auction houses in the world and is known for their auctions of famous artworks.
But beginning May 1, the auction house will feature a very unique auction with the help of Google Meet video calls.
Some of the items on the list are an acting lesson from Captain Picard himself Sir Patrick Stewart, some studio time with Sting, hanging out with The Strokes, a virtual coffee with Hillary Rodham Clinton, a video conversation with Sasha Baron Cohen, decorator Jacques Grange, former British foreign secretary David Miliband, or Apollo 9 astronaut Russell Schweickart, coffee or tea with former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and getting coached by author, business adviser Tim Ferriss, and a virtual visit of “Downton Abby’s” Highclere Castle with writer and creator Julian Fellowes, Hugh Bonneville, and Elizabeth McGovern.
The auction runs from May 1 to 8 and is set to benefit the International Rescue Committee and their work to aid with the Covid-19 efforts. The starting bid for all items begins at $50 with no minimum.
Sothby’s CEO Charles F. Stewart spoke on the auction saying, “we are proud to contribute to pandemic relief at this extraordinary time. Many of our clients around the world have inquired about supporting COVID-19 relief efforts and, with the partnership of Google and so many leading figures who have pledged to support this unique auction event of virtual experiences, we are looking forward to supporting the efforts of the International Rescue Committee.”
