Blues man Lee Gates died April 15, 2020 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the age of 82 as a result of natural causes.
Today artists can takes months and even years to complete an album. In 2003, Gates took a Greyhound bus from Huntsville, Alabama to Nashville, Tennesse after missing a bus connection and west straitght to the recording studio where he had the entire album recorded three hours later.
It took over 50 years of making music before the guitar playing Bluesman recorded his first album. He recorded three albums late in his career.
A first cousin to fellow Blues man Albert Collins, Brice Lee Gates was born in Pontotoc, Mississippi in December 20, 1937. He moved to Milwaukee in 1959 where he performed his Delta Blues for over 50 years. Gates’ father and Collins’ father were brothers.
Survivors include his daughter.
