On the last turn of the last lap of the second overtime finish of the Daytona 500, Ryan Newman was involved in a crash that sent his car airborne and put Newman’s car on its hood sliding down the track.

After safety workers and health officials extricated Newman from his car, he was transported to the Halifax Medical Center.

Roush-Fenway Racing officials released a statement saying that Ryan Newman was in serious condition but his injuries were not life threatening.

While specific injuries were not revealed, Roush-Fenway promised to keep fans updated; but requested fans respect the privacy of the family, asking only for thoughts and prayers for Newman.

Roush-Fenway stated that they appreciate your patience and cooperation and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
