The Xfinity Series kicks off their 2020 racing season with the Racing Experience 300 on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. Forty teams have brought cars to fill 36 spots on the track.

Last season NASCAR cut the number of cars from a 40 car field to 36.

Before racing and even qualifying even started the number 66 team has been levied a big penalty. NASCAR found that the nose portion of the 66 team’s Toyota had been modified which is against the rules. As a result the 66 team owner has been docked 75 car owner points – putting him in the red even before the first race has been run – and has been fined $50,000. The 66 team crew chief Sebastian Laforge has been suspended for six Xfinity Series races including the race at Daytona; however, he will be allowed to crew the Gander Turck Series truck and the NASCAR Cup car. As a Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series regular driver Timmy Hill has not been penalized and will be allowed to run in the race.

Ross Chastain’s number 10 car had a mechanical issue with his car and the team is trying to put out the fire in the engine. The Kaulig Racing number 16 car driven by AJ Allmendinger is also having an issue with his car. Both drivers needed to qualify on time in order to make it into the race.

Myatt Snider puts his number 21 car on the pole with a time of 47.763 seconds for his first career pole in his first Xfinity Series start after moving up from the Truck Series.
