When the 2019 NASCAR season ended, Mexican born driver Daniel Suarez had lost his ride with Stewart-Haas Racing when SHR announced that Daniel Hemric would take over driving duties of the number 19 car.
On January 28, Daniel Suarez got a new ride.
Gaunt Brothers Racing has tapped Suarez to drive their number 96 Toyota for the upcoming racing season. Parker Kligerman drove the number 96 car in 14 Cup series races last season.
Suarez returns to driving a Toyota after spending a year behind the wheel of a Ford.
Speaking on his new ride Suarez said, “it’s great to be back with Toyota and back in the NASCAR Cup Series. My NASCAR career started off really well and Toyota was a very big part of that. To have them in my corner again gives me a lot of confidence. Gaunt Brothers Racing has something to prove and so do I. We’re committed to each other and we’re going to build each other up.”
Gaunt Brothers will be Suarez’ third car owner in four years as a NASCAR Cup driver. Suarez was an Xfinity Series champion in 2016.
Previous sponsors Coca-Cola and the communication network technology CommScope will continue on as sponsors for Suarez. Both companies have sponsored Suarez since his days as an Xfinity Series driver.
Dave Winston comes over from Richard Childress Racing to serve as crew chief for Suarez.
As a Busch pole winner in 2019, Suarez is eligible to run in The Clash but Suarez has decided to concentrate on preparing for the Daytona 500 and its qualifying races with his new team at Gaunt Brothers.
