Iron Maiden fans have long known that singer Bruce Dickinson holds a commercial pilot’s license and flies the band’s plane Ed Force One whenever the band uses air travel to get to a gig.
But that isn’t all….Dickinson is also has another talent – that of a fencer. His fencing prowess has earned him the title of Honorary Group Captain in the 601 Squadron of the Royal Air Force.
The honour will allow Dickinson to represent the squadron in fencing at the upcoming RAF Championships this May, the Royal Air Force Fencing Open, and the Inter Service Championships in July.
Familiar with all three weapons used in fencing – epee, rapier, and foil – Dickinson has ranked as high as number eight in the United Kingdom in the sport. He currently is competing with the epee.
