Over the past few years much has been made over the First Amendment to the Constitutional of the United States. Along with giving all citizens the right to worship as they please, the Amendment also gives the press…and all Americans…the right of free speech.

It has long been the responsibility of the media to report the news truthfully and without subjectivity.

For the past 30 years, The Radio, Television Digital News Foundation has presented the awards to members of the media who, “exemplify responsible journalism and who practice their constitutionally guaranteed duty to seek and report the truth”.

This year the RTDNF presented seven awards to members of the media.

The First Amendment Award was presented to the long running CBS news magazine “60 Minutes” for “holding the powerful accountable and sheds light on important subjects.”

ABC World News Tonight and 20/20 anchor David Muir was presented with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award – an award that honours a journalist or news executive for their contributions to the protection of the First Amendment freedoms.

The First Amendment Service Award went to Bob Horner of NBC for his behind the scenes work as creator and president of the NBC News Channel.
