As a part of the new sponsor partnerships, Anheuser-Busch will once again sponsor the annual Clash race that kicks off Speedweeks in Daytona and helps to set the stage for the biggest race of the season – the Daytona 500.
Busch was the original sponsor for the race when it began in 1979 and continued to sponsor the race until 1997. Under the name of Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch continued to sponsor the Clash until 2011 when a new sponsor took over.
Speaking on the return of Busch to The Clash, Daytona International Speedway President Chip Wile said, “Busch Beer will forever be linked to the history of The Clash and we are thrilled to welcome them back as we collectively drive excitement for the start of the 2020 season.”
The 2020 Busch Clash will be February 9 on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. The Clash is a 75 lap – 187.5 mile – exhibition race that features 2019 Pole winners, past active Clash champions, active drivers who have won the Daytona 500 or sat on the pole for the 500, and 2019 Playoff drivers.
Since Buddy Baker won the first Clash in 1979, there have been a total of 23 winners with the Earnhardts taking the lead. Dale Earnhardt Sr won a total of six races – the most of any driver – with son Dale Jr winning two. There have been a total of 10 drivers who have won the race more than once.
