Last weekend during the M&M’s 200 at Iowa Speedway Austin Hill and Johnny Sauter made contact on the track, bringing out the caution flag. During that caution flag Sauter sought vengeance and ran his truck into Austin Hill’s truck, sending both drivers into the wall.
As a result of his actions, NASCAR pulled Sauter off of the track and parked him. Sauter finished the race in 27th place.
On Tuesday, NASCAR issued a further penalty on Sauter with a one race suspension.
While Sauter will miss running in the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois; he did announce via Twitter that he will participate in the Super Late Model Dick Trickle 99 at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin.
Currently Sauter ranks eighth in the playoff standings – the last driver eligible for the playoffs; NASCAR has stated that Sauter’s playoff standings will no be altered as a part of his penalty.
In other NASCAR penalties…
the number 88 truck driven by Matt Crafton was charged with having one of his lug nuts improperly secured. As a result of the infraction, truck crew chief Carl Joiner was fined $2,500.
