It’s a hot one for the longest race of the Xfinity Series with 300 miles at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Alsco 300. With air temperatures approaching 90, the temps on the track will top 130 degrees.
As the drivers prepare for qualifying on Saturday morning, several drivers are still working their way through the inspection process after failing a couple of times.
After a number of drivers had issues during the qualifying round, with a qualifying time of 29.29 seconds Christopher Bell put his number 20 car on the pole and will lead the field to the green flag. This is Bell’s ninth career pole in his short driving career and third for this season.
It’s a drivers only weekend where some of the Monster Cup Series drivers take over the broadcast and this year they are getting a little help from the pit box with crew chief Chad Knaus joining Brad Keselowski and Ricky Stenhouse Jr in the FOX studio. Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, and Clint Bowyer are in the broadcast booth with Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney, and “That Jones Boy” Erik Jones on pit road.
Stages one and two of the race are 45 laps each with stage three lasting 110 laps for a total of 200 laps around the mile and a half track.
On the warm up lap the temperatures have already topped 100 inside the cars.
Christopher Bell brings the field down for the green flag start of the race from the outside lane and goes nose to nose with Cole Custer before Custer takes the lead. The drivers are already getting four side across the track.

Christopher Bell challenges Cole Custer for the lead but so far, Custer holds on to the top spot. On lap 16 Christopher Bell gets around Cole Custer to take the lead.
The caution comes out on lap 18 after Timmy Hill drops water on the track after blowing an engine. Matt Mills gets into the water and spins out but does not hit anything.
Ross Chastain comes down pit road before pit road is open. He will have to serve a penalty for pitting while pit road is closed.

Mason Diaz hit the wall and had to make a trip down pit road, but the track stays green.
Lap 34, Christopher Bell has pulled out to a lead of over a second on Cole Custer.
On lap 40, the air temperature is 90 degrees and 142 degrees on the track.
Lap 41, Cole Custer has closed the gap on leader Christopher Bell to less than a second.

Brandon Jones brings the field down for the green flag start of stage two on lap 55 and jumps out in front for the lead with a push from behind.
Chase Briscoe got way loose but saved the car and the track stays green.
Halfway through stage two the caution flag comes out after Austin Cindric spins out.

Brandon Jones brings the field down for the green flag restart on lap 72 but it is Tyler Reddick who gets out in front for the lead.
Matt Mills is not feeling well and the team has Josh Bilicki standing by in case they need to make a driver change.
Christopher Bell hits the wall and has a flat tire. Brandon Jones also hits the wall and has a flat tire. The track stays green.

Christopher Bell stayed out on the track; as a result the tire shredded and caught fire. He is now out of the race.

Reports are that Brandon Jones and Christopher Bell ran over some debris on the track.

Noah Gragson was charged with having too many crew members over the wall when a tire got away from the crew member.

With 44 laps remainig in the race, the caution flag comes out after a crash involving the 36 car driven by Josh Williams and the 52 car driven by David Starr.
Taking fuel only, Austin Cindric wins the race off of pit road but not all of the drivers made a pit stop.
Austin Dillon is having issues with carbon monoxide coming in the car and the team has made a driver change putting Daniel Hemric in the car.
