One of the many exhibits available at The Strong is the “Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden”. This spring the Butterfly Garden will be home to a very special exhibition…a living exhibition…of orchids.
Beginning April 5 and running through May 13 the Butterfly Garden will have over 150 varieties of orchids in display.
“Orchids in Bloom” will feature orchids of many colours from around the world including the Americas and Asia. Visitors will be able to a close look at these rare flowering plants…and take photos of the beautiful plants as the hundreds of butterflies that inhabit the garden land on the flowers.
Noting that it is the third year that “Orchids in Bloom” has come to The Strong, manager of grounds and live collections Craig Sherwood spoke on the exhibit saying, “visitors to the garden love taking pictures of different orchids, and Orchids in Bloom allows for even more orchid varieties to be displayed such as Dendrobium and Phalaenopsis orchids. We look forward to museum guests and members enjoying this unique opportunity in The Strong’s butterfly garden.”
The “Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden” is the only indoor year round butterfly garden in New York outside of New York City. Along with the hundreds of butterfly species, the garden includes a button quail, a chameleon, turtles, a tortoise, and a green aracari toucan.
Admission to The Strong is $16 for visitors over the age of two and free for members and babies two and under. Entry into the butterfly garden requires an additional fee of $4 for members, $5 for non members, and free to babies two and under.
The Strong is open 10am to 5pm Monday thru Thursday, 10am to 8pm Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5pm on Sunday.
