The Hard Rock Cafe has been offering unsigned bands the opportunity to shine by performing their original music, first with the Hard Rock Calling and later with the Battle of the Bands since 2010.
For the 2019 edition of the Battle of the Bands, the Hard Rock Cafe has switched things up a bit and instead of featuring original music, they are offering bands a chance to show off their skills with a mashup competition.
The HRC has joined forces with Pepsi Co to offer the winning band a grand prize of $15,000. The top three bands will receive an all expenses paid trip to New York City where they will perform before a live panel of music executives at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square on June 21, 2019.
For this mashup competition, artists, DJ’s, and MC’s are asked to re-imagine iconic songs; not into medley but into a different genre – for example, making a rap song into a country, a ballad into a dance piece, or a heavy metal song into an electronic music piece.
Six cities have been chosen to host the regional events – Nashville, Tennessee; Seattle, Washington; Sydney, Australia; Moscow, Russia; Curitiba, Brazil; and Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Each band must choose one member to serve as the Band Representative and submit all appropriate paper work. Deadline for entry is February 9 at 4pm.
The competition begins at the local Cafe with local judges, then two winning bands will be selected from the regional competition and receive a cash prize of $1,000. The regional winners will face off via an online competition where fans can vote for their favourite bands. The top three vote getters will travel to New York City for the final round of competition.
Bands are limited to no more than five members.
A band entering the contest must have a copy of their song posted on Vimeo, YouTube, or SoundCloud
Band must have a website, Facebook, or Instagram page
