Each year as a part of the Grammy Award week festivities, the Recording Academy celebrates an artist who has not only made significant musical contributions to the world, but has also made a significant presence with philanthropic endeavours with the MusicCares Person of the Year.
Tapping in to the Nashville Country music scene for the first time in it history, the Recording Academy has chosen eight time Grammy Award winner Dolly Parton as the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year.
Proceeds from the MusicCares tribute concert and auction go to the MusiCares Foundation to help support musicians in time of need whether it be medical or personal need.
Speaking on being selected for the honour; Parton said, “I am so excited and humbled to be honored as MusiCares Person of the Year. It’s even more special knowing the gala benefits music people in need. I can’t wait to hear all of the great artists singing my music.”
The MusiCares Foundation has released the first round of artists scheduled to perform Parton’s music at the gala concert on February 8.
Tapping into all genres of music; Leon Bridges, Lauren Daigle, Norah Jones, Shawn Mendes, P!nk, Mark Ronson, and Chris Stapleton have all been named as performers with more to come.
