In August Monster Energy Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne announced that at the end of the 2018 racing season he would be retiring to spend more time with his family and catching up on some of life events his children experienced in his absence.

Only a few weeks after that announcement Kahne suffered a serious dehydration issue during a particularly grueling race with in car temperatures topping 150 degrees.

Kahne had originally planned to sit out a few weeks in order to get the health issues under control, but while otherwise healthy, the dehydration issues continue and Kahne has announced that his racing season…and career is over.

Reagan Smith has been filling in for Kahne and driving the number 95 car. Smith will continue those driving duties through the remainder of the 2018 racing season.

Number 95 car owner Leavine Family Racing has announced that driver Matt DiBenedetto will take over the driving duties for the number 95 Chevrolet beginning with the 2019 racing season.
