On a Monday night – September 17 – the Television Academy presented the 70th annual Prime Time Emmy Awards.

Before the broadcast began, it was announced that this season the Emmy Awards is the most diverse list of nominees in history. Sandra Oh is the first woman of Asian descent to be nominated for a leading role.

After 13 minutes of opening song and monologue, the Emmy’s presented the first award of the night for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series to Henry Winkler for his role as Gene Cousineau in “Barry”.

The award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series went to Ale Borstein for her role as Susie in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.

The award for Oustanding Writing for a Comedy Series went to Amy Sherman-Palladino for the Pilot of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.

The award for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series went to Amy Sherman-Palladino for the Pilot of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.

The award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series went to Rachel Bronsnahan for her role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”.

The award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series went to Bill Hader for his role as Barry in “Barry”.

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie went to Merritt Wever for her role as Mary Agnes in “Godless”

The award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie went to Jeff Daniels for his role as Frank Griffin in “Godless”.

The award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special went to “USS Callister (Black Mirror)”.

A 96 year old Betty White made an appearance and spoke about her longevity in the television business.

The award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special went to Ryan Murphy for “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”.

The award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Limited Series or Movie went to Regina King for her role as Latrice Butler in “Seven Seconds”.

The award for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Limited Series or Movie went to Darren Criss for his role as Andrew Cunanan in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”.

Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series: “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”

Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series: Don Roy King for “Saturday Night Live”. King proposed to his girlfriend during his acceptance speech. He gave her the same ring that his father gave his mother 67 years ago.

The award for Outstanding Directing in a Variety Special went to Glenn Weiss for “The Oscars”.

Tina Fey presented the In Memorium segment to honour those who have passed on in the past year.
