Emmy Award winning actor Reg E. Cathey died February 9 in New York City home as a result of lung cancer at the age of 59.
Cathey is best known for his Emmy Award winning portrayal of Freddy on the Netflix hit series “House of Cards”.
While best known for “House of Cards”, Cathey appeared in over 80 film and television roles including his 1984 debut in the TV movie “A Doctor’s Story”, “Born on the Fourth of July”, “Square One Television”, Morag on “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, “And the Bank Played On”, “Clear and Present Danger”, “The Corner”, “Oz”, “The Jury”, “Third Watch”, “The Wire”, “30 Rock”, “Star Wars: The Old Republic – Rise of the Hutt”, “Grimm”, “The Divide”, “Fantastic Four”, “Outcast”, and several episodes in the “Law & Order” franchise.
He also performed on the stage, making his Broadway debut in 2000 in “The Green Bird”.
He was born Reginald Eurias Cathey on August 18, 1958 in Huntsville, Alabama into a military family; spending some of his childhood in Germany. Cathey first acted while in high school where he performed in “To Kill a Mockingbird”.
