Good enough to win the gold medal…
Good enough to be invited to be invited to hear the “State of the Union” address…
BUT, NOT good enough to be invited to the White House!!!
With the end of the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina drawing to an end, the Team USA women’s hockey team needed a little extra time past the 60 minutes of regulation to beat Team Canada’s women for the gold medal with a score of 2 to 1.
On Monday, the White House invited the women to be their guests at the annual “State of the Union” address on Tuesday night.
They declined…
A Team USA Hockey spokesperson replied via a statement saying, “we are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal–winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement. Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate.”
The spokesperson added, “they were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”
On the final day of the Olympics, the gold medal game for the men’s hockey teams was held between Team USA and Team Canada – exactly 46 years after the last time Team USA took home the gold medal in hockey.
Oddly enough, the men also needed an overtime period to score the winning goal…and win the game 2 to 1.
Joining the men in the locker room to celebrate was head of the FBI Kash Patel who has been seen chugging beer with the team.
While in the locker room, Patel phoned the White House.
