The biggest conversation when it comes to the Super Bowl is not about the teams but about what is going to happen during the halftime. Who is going to entertain the thousands of fans in the stands and the millions (maybe even billions) of people watching on the television.
On February 8, the halftime show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California will be the Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny.
But the Super Bowl events expand far beyond the events on the field itself.
Along with the All Star artists picked to sing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs is a pre-game concert performance.
This year is the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl and the NFL is selecting some home town artists to entertain the fans.
The award winning rock trio Green Day (Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool) will get the day of football and music started off with the pre-game concert that will give fans a walk through the history of the game. The show will include generations of Super Bowl MVP’s.
Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong spoke on being selected for the show saying, “we are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!”. We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”
NFL senior director of even and game presentation Tim Tubito said, “celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL legends who’ve helped define this sport, is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX. As we work alongside NBC Sports for this opening ceremony, we look forward to creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”
Following Green Day and the MVP’s will be Charlie Puth with a performance of the National Anthem. Brandi Carlile will perform “American the Beautiful” and Coco Jones will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.
The party is scheduled to kick off at 3pm pacific time (6pm est).
