Over the past few months, people have been seeing their special, historic, and iconic sidewalk crossings erased and torn apart.  The White House claims that the crosswalks and artwork are political and must be removed.

The most recent victim of the artistic witch hunt is in Lubbock, Texas with a crosswalk that pays homage to rock ‘n’ roll native son Buddy Holly.  The crosswalk features a depiction of Holly’s glasses in each of the four crosswalks.

Glasses are political??????????  Who knew????

The Lubbock City Council said that they have no choice but to remove the iconic crosswalk.

“It’s such a tasteful cross section and people like it. But what do you do?” said City Council Member Christy Martinez-Garcia, who was among those questioning why it had to go.

Holly’s passing launched the expression “The Day the Music Died”.  Now, his crosswalk will spawn The Day the City Cried.

The Texas Department of Transportation threatened a lost of funding for road projects if the city did not comply with the removal order.

Removal of the bespectacled crosswalk will take place next year as a part of normal road maintenance.

Lubbock has already had to remove a mural protesting the border wall with Mexico.

Previously Florida removed a rainbow crosswalk in Orlando outside a night club where 49 people were murdered by a gunman.
