Over the past two weeks, the play “Othello” has topped the Broadway box office; this week, the play is still in the top five but has been out done by four tother productions.
“Good Night, and Good Luck” starring George Clooney not only topped the list, but has set a new box office record in the process with a one week draw of over $3 million; beating out “Othello”. Both plays hit record ticket prices at around $900 with an average of $300.
And there are still six shows yet to open, even to previews.
Last week Broadway brought in $137.88 million with an average of 95 percent of the seats filled with theatre fans with nearly 300,000 tickets sold.
Still topping the $2 million mark, “Wicked” came in second with $2.55 million at the box office. “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “Hamilton” round out the top five with box office draws of over $2 million.
Twenty of the 33 shows currently running on Broadway made it in the Million Dollar Club last week.
