The musical based on the music of ABBA “Mamma Mia!” is heading back to where it all began this summer.
A smash hit Broadway musical that went on to the beg screen as a film, debuted at the Winter Garden Theatre in 2001. And it is making a revival in August for a limited run.
With the cast yet to be announced, “Mamma Mia!” will begin with previews on August 2 and an official opening on August 14.
Speaking on the hit show, producer Judy Craymer noted in a statement, “when ‘Mamma Mia’ opened on Broadway in 2001 and went on to run for 15 years; the show had already launched productions in London and Toronto and played a sold-out North American tour. Despite the glowing reception we received in those markets, nothing could have prepared us for the outpouring of love and acclaim (and dancing in the aisles!) that overwhelmed us when we arrived in New York at the magnificent Winter Garden Theatre.
She added, “last year, Mamma Mia! celebrated 25 successful years in the West End, and it’s truly fantastic to bring the original production back to its Broadway home after 24 years.
The run is scheduled to end on February 1, 2026. Tickets go on sale to the general public March 14 at MammaMiaBway.com.
