The latest installment of Hollywood awards season was the Critics Choice Awards.  “Wicked”, “Emilia Perez”, and “The Substance” topped the list of winners with three trophies apiece.  On the television side, not surprisingly, “Shogun” topped the winners list with four; with “Hacks” right behind with three.

Voting for the Critics Choice ended January 10; before the current controversy surrounding “Emilia Perez” and its leading actress Karla Sofia Gascon and some recently discovered tweets.

The event was hosted by Chelsea Handler who opened the show by thanking the First Responders for their efforts during the recent wildfires.  Following the Grammy’s lead, the Critics Choice also had a QR code and encouraged fans and audience members to contribute to recovery and relief efforts.  There were some First Responders attending the ceremony.  The acceptance speeches throughout the night included thanking First Responders.

The recent fires have ravaged 16,000 structures over a 60 square mile area.

The Critics Choice Awards were originally scheduled for January 14, but were postponed twice and moved to February 7 due to the fires.

“Conclave” and “Wicked” led the way with eleven nominations each.  “Dune: Part Two”, “Emilia Perez”, “The Brutalist, “Anora”, and “The Substance” also garnered multiple nominations.

In television, “Shogun” led the way with six nominations including three of the four Drama Series acting awards; followed by “Abbott Elementary”, “Disclaimer”, “Hacks”, The Diplomat”, “The Penguin”, and “What We Do in the Shadows” also earned multiple nominations.
