After a number of closings over the past few weeks, there were only 29 productions on Broadway last week. Just beginning previews, “Redwood” is the newest production to hit the Great White Way.
With the drop in productions, there is obviously a drop in the box office; but while just 14 shows made it in the Million Dollar Club, 20 shows made it in the 90 percent club last week.
Last week was also Broadway Week where fans could purchase a ticket and get one free which may explain the 10 plus percent drop at the box office and just under $30 million in receipts. Even with the drop at the box office, the numbers are up nearly 20 percent from the same time last year.
There may have been an overall drop on Broadway last week, but “Wicked” was not one of them, bringing in over $2 million to top the 14 shows in the Million Dollar Club. In second, “Gypsy” fell just short of the $2 Million mark. “The Lion King”, “Hamilton”, and “Sunset Boulevard” rounded out the top five.
