During the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, the number three Richard Childress Racing car driven by Austin Dillon lost a wheel on the race course and bringing out the caution flag.
Dillon was held two laps as a part of the penalty. On October 15 NASCAR officials assessed a further penalty on the RCR number three team by suspending front tire changer Joshua Thomas and jack man Nick Covey for the next two races – Las Vegas and Homestead-Miami.
Losing a wheel on the racing surface is a violation of Sections 8.8.10.4.A & C in the NASCAR Rule Book – the “loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle during the event.”
In other penalties, NASCAR has fined four teams in the Xfinity Series for a single unsecured lug nut. The crew chief for each team was fined $5,000.
