Race two of the triple header weekend is the United Rentals 250 in the Xfinity Series. A high banked 2.66 mile track, Talladega is frequently the site for calamity and chaos. Thirty-eight teams brought cars to Talladega for 38 starting spots – all of the drivers will make it in the race.
Talladega Superspeedway is race two in round one of the playoffs for the Xfinity Series.
With no practice the drivers will take to the track to make their qualifying runs. There are two rounds in qualifying with the top 10 drivers moving on to round two where they will set the pole.
The first driver on the track is Carson Ware who posted a time of 54.480 seconds.
Team owner Jordan Anderson posted a time of 53.663 seconds, breaking the 54 second mark.
Caesar Bacarella has smoke coming from his car and did no complete a qualifying round, but he will make the race and start from the back of the field.
Nearly half of the field – 15 – drivers starting the race today are part-time drivers.
Dean Thompson and Taylor Gray ran in the Truck Series race on Friday afternoon and are doing double duty this weekend.
AJ Allmendinger breaks the 53 second mark with a time of 52.906 seconds.
Jesse Love, AJ Allmendinger, Riley Herbst, Shane van Gisbergen, Austin Hill, Parker Kligerman, Sheldon Creed, Chandler Smith, Aric Almirola, and Cole Custer will all be moving on to round two of the qualifying. Aric Almirola is the only non-playoff driver in the top 10.
During inspection, an issue with the windshield perimeter and Aric Almirola will start the race from the back of the field and will have to serve a passthrough penalty once the green flag drops.
Parker Kligerman is the first of the top 10 to make a qualifying run in round two and posts a time of 52.969 seconds.
With a time of 52.578 seconds Jesse Love puts his number two car on the pole with teammate Austin Hill alongside on the front row. It is the fourth front row sweep for Richard Childress Racing.

Stages one and two are 25 laps each with stage three lasting 44 laps for a total of 94 laps around the 2.66 mille track.

Lap two, Austin Hill leads the race as Aric Almirola makes his passthrough penalty. While he will not lose a lap serving the penalty, Almirola has lost the draft and will be running several miles per hour slower.
Lap three, drivers are beginning to spread out three wide.

Sam Mayer has moved up on the inside to battle with AJ Allmendinger for the lead.
Lap 10, Jesse Love has retaken the lead with AJ Allmendinger in second; Ryah Sieg, Austin Hill, and Anthony Alfredo round out thet top five.
The drivers are working to create a third lane in the middle.
Since serving his passthrough penalty, Aric Almirola is still in last place and is in danger of going a lap down.

Lap 16, Jesse Love holds on to a narrow lead over AJ Allmendinger; Chandler Smith, Austin Hill, and Justin Allgaier round out the top five.
Lap 17, Jesse Love and AJ Allmendinger are side by side in a battle for the lead. Love holds off Almendinger to keep the lead.
Lap 19, Jesse Love holds on to the lead with Chandler Smith and Justin Allgaier in a battle for second.
Lap 21, Jesse Love and Chandler Smith battle for the lead with Sheldon Creed and Justin Allgaier in a battle for third.
The double yellow line at the apron is out of bounds. Any driver who goes below the yellow line and advances his position, will have to serve a penalty.
In the middle lane, Jesse Love not only loses the lead but drops back in the field. Chandler Smith is the new leader.

Drivers come down pit road for service with Jesse Love winning the race off of pit road after taking fuel only.
Matt DiBenedetto was charged with an uncontrolled tire on pit road and will have to restart the race form the back of the field.
Before the pit stop Austin Hill reported that his car was out of control; adding he didn’t know what the car was going to do. The crew made several adjustments during the pit stop.
Chandler Smith reports that the throttle pedal has burnt his foot.

Jesse Love moves up and down the track blocking each lane. The 19 year old won the spring race at Talladega.

Lap 42 the caution flag comes out for a crash. AJ Allmendinger checked up to avoid wrecking leader Jesse Love and caught up the back of the field. Justin Allgaier passed Jesse Love for the lead as the crash was happening.

Three to go and it’s “The Big One!” The race goes into overtime.
NASCAR has red flagged the race.
Brandon Jones gives Carson Kvapil a push and Kvapil gets loose, spinning out and collects several cars. Parker Kligerman, Cole Custer, Justin Allgaier, Parker Retzlaff, Jeb Burton, AJ Allmendinger, Dylan Lupton, Anthony Alfredo, Jesse Love, and Blaine Perkins were also involved.
After less than 10 minutes, the red flag has been withdrawn and the caution flag displayed. The crews are working on the damaged cars.
This will be the 13th overtime finish for the Xfinity Series this season.
Brandon Jones has been checked and cleared from the infield care center; other than losing his voice, Jones is fine.
