Only two days remain before the biggest night in music when the annual Grammy Awards are revealed; but the Recording Academy continues to add artists, presenters, and tributes.
Already having announced tributes to Country music legend Loretta Lynn, Christine McVie, and Rap artist Takeoff; the Grammys will be paying tribute to 50 years of Hip-Hop music with a segment on the genre, it’s history, and influences on music. Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, Spliff Star, De La Soul, DJ Drama, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott, Future, GloRilla, Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Mele Mel, Scorpio/Ethiopian King, Ice-T, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, The Lox, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rahiem, Rakim, RUN-DMC, Salt-N-Peppa, Spinderella, Scarface, Swizz Beatz, and Too $hort are all scheduled to perform. LL Cool J will emcee the segment including a dedication to Hip-Hop. The segment is being produced by Questlove.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr spoke on the segment saying, “for five decades, hip-hop has not only been a defining force in music, but a major influence on our culture. “its contributions to art, fashion, sport, politics, and society cannot be overstated. I’m so proud that we are honoring it in such a spectacular way on the Grammy stage. It is just the beginning of our year-long celebration of this essential genre of music.”
The Recording Academy has also announced a number of the presenters for Grammy Awards on February 5. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Cardi B, James Corden, Billy Crystal, Viola Davis, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Olivia Rodrigo, and Shania Twain are all scheduled to present awards during the gala event being hosted by Trevor Noah.
