Another piece of the Silly Season puzzle has dropped into place when NBC Sports has announced that former Daytona winner AJ Allmendinger will be joining fellow Daytona winners Dale Earnhardt Jr and Dale Jarrett as a part of the broadcast team beginning next month.
Allmendinger will work on various programs for NBC Sports including being a part of the broadcast crew for the IMSA Sports Car Championship and a part of the NASCAR America crew.
He will make his debut at the 57th running of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona on January 26 – a race he won in 2012. Allmendinger is also expected to run in the race itself.
Speaking on the addition of Allmendinger, NBC Sports President of Production Sam Flood said, “AJ loves to race and is passionate about IMSA. His career as a driver across IMSA, NASCAR and Open Wheel will bring a unique mix of experience and insight to the NBC Sports team.”
Speaking on his new position at NBC; Allmendinger said, “I couldn’t be more excited to begin this new chapter in my life alongside some of the most knowledgeable and influential voices in motorsports, and to be a part of NBC Sports’ second-to-none coverage.”
Allmendinger has spent the past 13 racing seasons behind the wheel of the 47 car driving for JTG Daugherty Racing in the Monster Energy Cup Series.
