One year ago on Oct 2, 2017; musical icon Tom Petty died as the result of an accidental prescription drug overdose at the age of 66. Petty had been touring and dealing with a painful hip injury at the time of his death.
But Petty left behind a musical legacy of songs with his band The Heartbreakers and with The Traveling Wilburys for the world to enjoy.
In a celebration of the music, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Brent Havens, a rock band, and vocalist Tony Vincent gathered at Kleinhans Music Hall on October 5 for BPO Rocks! The Music of Tom Petty.
After opening the show with “Jam with Me”, the night of Classical music meets Rock included the songs “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”, “I Won’t Back Down”, “Free Falling”, “Runnin’ Down a Dream”, “House in the Woods”, “Refugee”, “Breakdown”, “Don’t Do Me Like That”, and closing out the night with “American Girl”.
The Music Hall was filled with Tom Petty fans who were ready to rock out, join in on the songs, a rock the house to celebrate the musical legacy of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artist Tom Petty.
