The Bear’s Den Showroom in the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino is an intimate venue that lends itself well to a less formal setting.
When multi instrumentalist and singer Sophie B. Hawkins performed on June 30, she gave a performance fitting the venue. Attired in blue jeans, a T-shirt, and flip-flops; Hawkins treated the venue…and show…as if it were a laid back gathering in her home.
The stage was set with instruments scattered about which she played during the show.
It didn’t take long for Hawkins the make herself at home, kicking off her shoes and “letting her hair down”. She spoke of an incredible scent coming from the audience.
After opening the show with “Mysteries We Understand”, Hawkins told stories about herself and the songs she sang.
Joined by a drummer and a guitarist/keyboard player Hawkins performed song old and new including “California”, “Before I Walk in Fire” “As I Lay” – where she enlisted the help of the audience, “Hungered of Love”, “Love Yourself”, “I Can’t Replace You”, “Better Off Without You”, “I Need Nothing Else”, “Lose Your Way”, “Consume”, “No Connection”, “Free Yourself”, “Right Because”, Balloon”, and “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover”.
Prior to launching a solo career, the New York City native began her musical career as a percussionist. She has shared the stage with Bryan Ferry, Chris Isaak, Melissa Etheridge, and Sting.
After the show she met with fans for photos and autographs.
Sophie was absolutely Amazing! Performed my all time favorite Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover and it sounded like it was coming from a recording studio. Her voice is impeccable! So wonderful to see a real musician and writer in person performing her own music. She had a meet and greet after and Sophie coukdnt be more down to earth and personable with each of her fans. She talked personally to each Fam and hugged is along with posing for pictures with each of us. We love you Sopjhie! You are an amazing person as much as you are an Amazing Artist! It was so nice to meet you! ❤️
Unfortunately I missed the meet and greet because I had to run across to the other side of the casino for another show.:(
